Albemarle, the country’s biggest producer and manufacturer of lithium, has used Science Week to shine a spotlight on the diverse and rewarding STEM-related career pathways available to students.

During a series of recent career fairs and information sessions at Manea Senior College, St Thomas More College and Curtin University Chemistry Club, Albemarle team leaders met with students to encourage them to consider future pathways within the company’s world-class Kemerton lithium plant.

The information sessions aligned with this year’s Science Week theme of ‘Innovation: Powering Future Industries’.

Albemarle Human Resources Director Kristy Carter said the broad scope of company programs and employment prospects available to aspiring STEM students were discussed at great length during the sessions.

“Navigating career choices can be challenging for students and a lot of questions were asked about the booming lithium industry,” she said.

“There was also strong interest in Albemarle’s graduate and apprenticeship programs, and many students were inspired by the diverse career paths the company offers.

“Parents were also actively engaged during the sessions and interested to hear career advancement stories within Albemarle.”

Ms Carter said Albemarle continued to expand rapidly.

“The Kemerton plant is about to get a whole lot bigger, with the launch of an intensive three-month recruitment drive ahead of the construction of trains 3 and 4, which will create over 1000 new jobs across all of our major contractors,” she said.

“The Kemerton expansion provides a major boost for jobs including engineering. It’s closely linked to our community and is a significant development in the STEM-focused resources industry.”
