Albemarle Australia

Albemarle is a world leader in transforming essential resources into critical ingredients for mobility, energy, connectivity, and health

Global demand for lithium underpins the world’s green energy transition and Albemarle is helping to meet this demand by expanding in Australia and globally.

Albemarle Australia is the country's largest lithium producer and manufacturer.

The $1bn plus Lithium Hydroxide Processing Plant at Kemerton, near Bunbury in Western Australia's South West produces value-added lithium product.

Albemarle’s expansion of Kemerton is the largest investment by any company in Australian downstream lithium manufacturing.

The construction, operations and expansion of Kemerton have established a new advanced manufacturing industry in WA’s South West and boosted the local and State economies. Kemerton has created more than 1800 jobs already in construction and operations, and future expansion will fuel hundreds more.

Attracting and retaining more skilled workers to the South West is critical to Kemerton and its future expansion. Albemarle is building the Paris Grove workers' accommodation village at nearby Australind to house the construction workforce which can’t be recruited locally. (More information about the accommodation village is available in the Community section of our website.)

Albemarle also holds strategic investments in lithium mining in Western Australia. These include the Wodgina Lithium Mine joint venture in the Pilbara and shareholding in the Greenbushes lithium mine in the South West.

In June 2023, Albemarle expanded its lithium footprint in Western Australia when it acquired Western Lithium, which holds various exploration tenements in the Pilbara, Goldfields and South West region, including near Greenbushes, one of the world’s best lithium mines. Since then, Albemarle has continued to build its exploration portfolio in WA, focusing on prospective lithium fields.
