ALBEMARLE FUNDS LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT TO TRAIN REGIONAL PARAMEDICS

July 10, 2023

  • Albemarle invests almost $50,000 in resuscitation ‘manikins’ for paramedic and volunteer training
  • Advanced training manikins are specially fitted with intravenous cannulas

Albemarle has invested almost $50,000 in state-of-the-art training equipment to regional paramedics and community volunteers based at Australind through St John Giving.

Two new resuscitation training mannequins, known as ‘Anne dolls’ or ‘manikins’, are specially fitted with intravenous (IV) cannulas and will be used to train local St John WA paramedics and volunteers in life-saving techniques, including the administering of IV drips.

Albemarle Australia Country Manager Beverley East said the ambulance service, which was located near the company’s Kemerton Lithium Hydroxide Processing Plant, provided vital emergency medical services for the region.

“Albemarle values the important work of regional paramedic teams, including St John staff and volunteers based near us at Australind,” she said.

“Any investment that could potentially save a life is worthwhile, and as a company we are committed to the goal of serving both people and planet.”

Ms East said while Albemarle in Australia was mostly known for battery-grade lithium processing for electric vehicles, the company had very strong global connections to health services.

“Globally Albemarle produces speciality products which are used in lifesaving devices such as pacemakers, glucose monitoring systems and portable defibrillators, so it feels very natural to us to support organisations such as St John in Western Australia.”

St John WA Australind Station Manager Lee Headland welcomed the funding boost.

“We are extremely grateful for Albemarle's support in funding two new Resus Anne manikins,” he said.

“These simulation manikins replicate a wide range of vital signs from palpable pulses to precise blood pressure measurements, accurate breathing rates and realistic chest sounds.

“By incorporating scenario-based training with these manikins, volunteers gain the valuable opportunity to practice conducting comprehensive patient assessments and apply their clinical judgment prior to engaging with real patients.”

St John Giving is the fundraising arm of St John WA and supports the organisation’s charitable activities.
